starting to dig a hole for a new office building

From the Calgary Urban Initiative website:
Barely after the onsite tenants have closed down and/or moved to a different location (including the Hy’s Steakhouse), Bentall is going full-steam ahead on Jamieson Place, with demolition already underway. The tower will feature some outstanding design elements, such as a pair of LED bars that run up the facade, and stand at 38 stories (or in this case 173 meters). As well, the Plus-15 level will feature a winter garden and is named after Alice Jamieson, a Calgarian who in 1913 became the first woman appointed to any judiciary in the British Empire.

experiencing snow for the first time

My cat Taz is from Huntington Beach, but has lived in Calgary since 2002. He doesn't mind going outside when it is cold but until last night has always had an instinctive Californian aversion to putting his paws on snow. I was amazed that he wanted to go outside on the deck and walk through the snow for a few minutes. When he goes outside, he is confined to the deck, he doesn't get to explore the neighbourhood. He is still an Orange County Republican, and probably would purr for Ann Coulter.

my photo was featured by Olympus!

I submitted this photo to Olympus for their email newsletter and it was one of 6 that were chosen. Probably only 6 people submitted photos, but it was a little thrill for me that my pic was included.

When I got home from Austria and looked at my photos, I realized I had photographed this building in Vienna from every angle and at every time of day without knowing at the time that it was the same building. If you are interested in seeing the full resolution photo, click on the "Austria" label and it will be among those photos. http://www.olympusamerica.com/crm/oneoffpages/reader_photo/crm_reader_photo_02_07.asp
