A visitor to my blog from Vietnam became the 50th flag on my list of visitors.

For cities that visitors are from, Calgary is the #1 source of visitors (I am not included in the count), followed by Beijing, Hunan, Singapore, the Bay area + Silicon Valley, and New York City.

The next cities are tied for number of visitors: Los Angeles, Montreal, Toronto, Edmonton, Ottawa, and Shandong.

Calgary construction boom hits record

Construction values in Calgary skyrocketed in 2006 with a record $4.76 billion, eclipsing 2005’s record of $3.6 billion by 32 per cent.
Officials say the city saw approvals for nearly 16,000 residential units, totalling $2.38 billion, and another $2.38 billion in non -residential development.
Calgary’s construction results in 2006 are very strong compared to other Canadian major cities like Edmonton at $2.3 billion, Vancouver at $2.04 billion, and Toronto at $3.7 billion.
The City also approved the development of several new communities in 2006.
City officials say in order to keep pace with the huge volumes of building construction city inspectors must take an innovative approach to providing service with mobile and wireless service as well as online services.

Calgary stats for 2006

Calgary's population passed the million person mark in the summer of 2006. If surrounding towns are included, the population would be about 1.15 million.
When I moved here in 1977 there were about 450,000 people.
There were 16,000 babies born in Calgary in 2006.
About 35,000 people moved here from across Canada and from around the world in the last year.
Construction permits issued for 2006 were over $4 billion CDN.
There were about 17,000 new housing starts; about 12,500 were single family, and most of the rest were condos.

NeoEarth and NeoCounter

I like this NeoCounter that shows me where my visitors are from, however it doesn't seem to register visitors from Japan at all and Australia only half the time.
This morning, I had my 400th visitor to my blog since adding the counter, and they were from Sacramento California.
For cities, after Calgary with 42 visitors, New York City is the biggest source of visitors to my blog, followed by Mountain View California ( if all Bay area visitors were counted together, it would probably be double the number of visitors from NYC); and then Montreal, Santiago Chile, and Ottawa are next in a tie.
California is the leading U.S. state for visitors.
The United States are by far in the lead for visitors to my blog.
So far the flag count is at 406 visitors from 37 countries.

NeoCounter, one week later

Last Friday, I added the NeoCounter which shows the country of origin of visitors to my blog. I am surprised to have had visitors from all over the world. I thought it would just be the friends and family mainly in Canada that I email who would have a look, but they aren't the visitors for the most part.
The only visitor that I begged to click on my blog so I could add a rare flag to the list was my friend Margaret who is teaching in Oman.
I am surprised to have had so many visitors from South America. Hopefully their English is much better than my non-existant Spanish & Portugese, if not there are plenty of photos and videos to look at.
So far the stats are: 63 visitors in total from 15 different countries.
The USA is in the lead with 21 visitors followed by Canada with 17.
There were 12 visitors from the EU, followed by South America with 8, 4 of them being from Argentina.
Australia and Asia both had 2 visitors.
